What is SEO?

Many of our customers do not know what SEO really is and so this blog post is designed to help explain this important aspect of website content creation.

What does SEO Mean?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This means web content that has been specifically created to be search engine friendly and to optimise traffic from this source. For article writing this means the content has been developed to be 100% unqiue to avoid penalities from search engines and includes a certain keyword density. It is important not to include keywords too many times or you find your website has actually lost page rank for "unethical SEO practices".

Okay so What are Keywords then?
Keywords are common search terms or phrases that average every day internet users search for through search engines. Whenever you enter in a word or sentance into a search engine it records the phrase as a "Keyword" and keeps a record of how many users have searched for that keyword. Websites will include these keywords in thier content to ensure users find thier website easily. The more relevent, unqiue and keyword optimised your content is the more search engines will value your website. This in turn increases your page rank.

What is Page Rank and Why do I need it?
SEO content improves your page rank for your chosen keywords as well as other similar ones it determines is suitable for your website. Websites with a high pank rank will often be given high places on search result pages. This means with a high page rank your website is much more likely to receive lots of traffic from users who found your website through a search engine. This is particularly beenficial for new websites and small businesss websites that cannot afford the expensive PPC advertising options. It is also beneficial as a traffic "buffer" regardless of your main advertising methods as it can provide a long term traffic source.
